Interstate 580 runs through Dublin as an east-west corridor to Oakland and the Bay Area, while Interstate 680 and I-205 provide regional north-south connections for commuters and families.
Dublin sits at a transportation crossroads. Interstate 580 runs east-west through the city as the central corridor of the Tri-Valley, connecting Dublin west to Pleasanton, San Leandro, Oakland, Emeryville, Albany and Berkeley. To the north, Interstate 680 provides a major north-south route, with the I-580/I-680 connector located just outside Dublin in the Pleasanton area. To the south and east, Interstate 205 links the region southward. This network means a Dublin resident can reach most Bay Area destinations within 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic and destination.
The California Department of Transportation has invested substantially in these corridors over recent years. The I-680 Corridor saw significant paving and improvement projects, including the addition of High Occupancy Vehicle and Express lanes in the northbound direction. The I-580 corridor, which passes through Dublin, remains a focus of ongoing maintenance and transportation planning. Two BART stations serve Dublin—Dublin/Pleasanton and West Dublin/Pleasanton—offering an alternative to driving for commuters heading to Oakland and San Francisco.
For families, good freeway access can mean two incomes from different parts of the region, school choices beyond the local district, and aging parents who live across the Bay but stay connected through regular visits. Each of those arrangements assumes the income that made them possible stays steady.
